Mangalganj – শীতের রাতে ভূতের দেশে
Duration: 2 Days · 1 Night | Price: ₹2,000 per person
শীতের রাতে ভূতের দেশে — "Ghost Country on a Winter Night." A short, completely different trip: a camp on the bank of the Ichhamati river at Mangalganj, a village with a haunted reputation. Two-hundred-year-old British ruins (Nilkuthi), a boat ride on the river that borders Bangladesh, the forests where Bibhutibhushan wandered, a bonfire evening — and at night, a guided walk through the ruins locally known as Kata Saheber Kuthi, site of local legends of a British officer's beheading.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Sealdah to Ichhamati riverbank — Early morning train from Sealdah to Bangaon. Auto rickshaw to the camp on the bank of the Ichhamati river. After settling in: visit Nilkuthi — the 200-year-old ruins of a British indigo plantation estate. After lunch, walk through the Bibhutibhushan forest nearby and take a boat ride on the Ichhamati. Back to camp in the evening for a bonfire by the river. At night — the guided nocturnal walk through Kata Saheber Kuthi, the haunted ruins where local legends tell of a British officer's beheading centuries ago. Overnight at the riverbank camp.
- Day 2: Morning on the river & return — Wake to mist on the Ichhamati. After breakfast at camp, check out and walk or take an auto back to Bangaon station for the return train to Sealdah.
Best time to visit: November to February — winter nights on the river are magical; misty mornings and crackling bonfires.
How to reach: Local train from Sealdah to Bangaon, then auto rickshaw to the Ichhamati riverbank camp.
