How We Pack for Two Weeks in One Cabin Bag

The layering trick, the one pair of shoes rule and the small pouch that has saved every trip — our founders’ packing list, item by item.
Most travellers pack double what they need and half of what they should. After running group tours from Kolkata for years, we have seen every packing mistake there is. Here is what we have learned: one cabin bag is almost always enough, and the discipline of packing light transforms how you travel.
Shoes are the biggest waste of luggage space in travel. One well-chosen pair does the job of three. For most Indian destinations, a pair of sturdy walking shoes or sports sandals covers temple visits, forest walks and market browsing. Add flip-flops only if you are visiting the beach.
India's climate changes dramatically across regions and between day and night, especially in the hills. Instead of packing separate outfits for each weather situation, pack for layers. Three clothing items become nine combinations.
Keep one small zipped pouch always at the top of your bag containing: pain relief tablets, ORS sachets, anti-diarrhoeal tablets, a plaster or two, a safety pin, a pen and a photocopy of your ID. These are the items you reach for in a hurry and you should never have to dig through your whole bag for them.
